Church History
The first time Koinonia met as a church was in March of 2004. The church met for its first Bible study inside of the Goines’ home. There were a total of 6 individuals present and at this time Koinonia had a total of 5 members (Ivory Daniels III, Donald & Natalie McDonald, Ronnie and Nikki Goines). From day one, everyone had a sense of excitement about what God was going to do. Koinonia Church went from the Goines’ living room to a YMCA then to the Arlington Boys & Girls Club where they had their first worship service on August 1, 2004. From August to December of 2004, Koinonia Church gathered for worship service twice a month on Sundays at 8:00 a.m., while continuing weekly Bible study on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m.
Koinonia Church moved to the Hugh Smith Recreation Center in January 2005 and began holding weekly worship services at 10:00 a.m. The church worshipped at this location for 2 years all the while experiencing numerical and spiritual growth.
Koinonia Church was presented with the opportunity to share a facility with Rockway Church in August of 2006. Although Rockway Church has since moved on to pursue their vision, Koinonia Church has remained in the facility.
Koinonia Church is a well respected name in the community and is fastly approaching 2,000 members and growing each week with over 30 functional ministries. Koinonia is proud to say that they have lost people accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior each week. Koinonia Church is also the home to Koinonia Kids Childcare & Development Center which is now open for service.
Although Koinonia is a quickly growing church, it has not lost its “small” feel. This is possible because of our commitment to living holy, sticking to the text and loving the people. As a result of the generosity and prayers of Walnut Ridge Church led by Pastor Weeks and the never ending support of the Koinonia family, we have begun the process of purchasing the 50,000 square foot edifice along with the 12 acres on which it was built! Thank you Jesus!
The phrase that best describes Koinonia, is simply "Dynamic Everything"!!!
